Lift-Served

addison king ·

Berms is a downhill mountain bike tracker built for lift-served bike parks. It records an entire day as one session: GPS, barometric altitude, motion activity, and device motion run continuously in the background while the app shows a live map, trail overlays, and current-run stats. The goal is set and forget—start in the morning, put the phone away, and let segmentation happen automatically.

From that stream, Berms separates lift rides from descents, learns lift locations, and identifies the top and bottom of each lift so slow sections, lunch stops, and mid-run pauses don't split a run incorrectly. It also detects jumps—airtime, distance, height, and drop—and rejects false positives from rough trails. Riders can correct a split manually or mark a segment as a lift.

At supported parks, runs are matched to the trails actually ridden, including direction, partial runs, and parallel trails; catalogs for Mountain Creek and Whistler are bundled for offline use. Each day gets distance, descent, lift vertical, riding, lift, and stopped time, top speed, and jump totals, plus per-run stats, a calendar archive, and shareable cards. Berms Studio on macOS matches GoPro footage to runs by timestamp and exports trimmed or stitched clips.

The stack is SwiftUI and SwiftData across iOS 26, watchOS 26, and macOS 26, with CoreLocation, CoreMotion, MapKit, and WatchConnectivity. The watch app mirrors live heart rate, speed, airtime, and run count, with pause, resume, finish, and water lock; a Live Activity handles the same controls from the lock screen and Dynamic Island. Location, motion, and health data stay on device—no accounts, social graph, or cloud sync. Berms is in private beta and not yet released.
